04.20.2008: A Tribute to the Big BA's "Sunday Night Blues"

So I discovered a set of tapes which I pilfered off the radio at the tender age of about 9 or 10 from Bob "Big B.A." Ancheta's Sunday Night Blues program broadcast out of the Portland/Vancouver area. Ancheta began his broadcast career in 1970 at Vancouver's KVAN (where Willie Nelson once worked) and has been at it over 30 years - probably the longest consecutive run in Portland radio - and is a leading local authority on Blues in the PDX-Vancouver area.

I felt so good listening to this audio snapshot from my past (and a little smug about the raunchy lyrics I was listening to at the time), that I wanted to share an expanded version of the tapes with you all.

He's still out there - giving young impressionable youth their first exposure to the thrill of real blues music. Next time you are near the mouth of the Columbia River on a Sunday night, spin the dial and seek him out. I hope you enjoy this break from our regular programming. For more info about Bob, checkout a page about him at Cascade Blues Online and his own page at KINK 101.9 FM

Cheers, Sean
